Information on Tetradure

Last spring, my veterinarian recommended a new drug called “Tetradure”. This drug is a long lasting antibiotic and
is just what the deer industry ordered. It lasts for 7 days and for most situations, only one treatment is necessary. I
have used Tetradure numerous times over last summer and have had very good success each time.
Merial Introduces Longer-Acting Antibiotic for “High-Risk” Cattle.

Duluth, Ga. -- Merial announces the introduction of TETRADURE 300 (ox tetracycline) Injection, a prescription
antibiotic labeled for cattle at high risk for Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) associated with Mannheimia
(Pasteurella) hemolytic.
When administered to “high-risk” cattle, new TETRADURE 300 provides therapeutic blood levels of the active
ingredient for seven to eight days, compared with two to four days for other popular antibiotics.
“Experience has taught producers that cattle don’t stop being at high risk a couple of days after they step off the
truck,” says Dr. Van Ricketts, Technical Service Representative with Merial. “BRD protection should not stop then
either. With TETRADURE 300, you protect cattle with a combination of powerful 300 mg/ml formulation, unique
13.6 mg/lb body weight dosage and long-acting composition that sets a new standard for BRD protection.”
TETRADURE 300 has been used successfully in Canada since 1998 on more than 1 million head of cattle. In two
field trials, TETRADURE 300 was compared to MICOTIL (tilmicosin) as a metaphylactic therapy. Results for
morbidity, mortality and performance were similar for the two products, but TETRADURE 300 was more cost
effective.
At a lower dosage rate of 9.0 to 13.6 mg/lb. Body weight, TETRADURE provides broad-spectrum control of all
major causes of BRD, including Mannheimia hemolytic, Pasteurella multisided and Haemophilus somnus.
In a field trial comparing effectiveness of first-line hospital pen antibiotics, a single hospital pen treatment with
TETRADURE 300 reduced mortality as effectively as a two-dose regimen of NUFLOR (florfenicol) and twice as
effectively as LIQUAMYCIN LA-200 (ox tetracycline)
TETRADURE 300 also effectively controls pinkeye and foot rot. TETRADURE 300 is available from licensed
veterinarians and is labeled for use in beef, non-lactating dairy cattle and dairy calves. It can be administered
subcutaneous, intramuscularly or intravenously, and requires no refrigeration or mixing. TETRADURE 300 is
available in 100, 250 and 500 ml bottles.
